SINGULAR INTEREST PROJECT “SAN FRANCISCO FORT” _ GUADALAJARA

Guadalajara | 2006

This is a Singular Interest Project (S.I.P.) for the Regional Government of Castilla La Mancha

The project recovers an urban void in downtown Guadalajara. An environmentally sustainable urban area is designed, an excellent space for coexistence:

– Coexistence with the environment. Applying the most modern, efficient and experienced techniques for energy saving. Making a rational use of water, through collection and optimization, (choosing indigenous tree species that require little water). Collecting every drop of rainwater, introducing a collection and storage system, for use in irrigation (design of a drip irrigation network).

– Coexistence with the existing urban environment. Acting in the monumental environment formed by the buildings of the San Francisco Fort, through the pedestrianization of new streets, the paving with a quality appropriate to the environment, the lighting of the Bejanque fountain and of the main buildings, which, being located high they obtain a hitherto unknown presence.

We are creating new spaces for use and enjoyment, not only for the residents of the new neighbourhood but for those of the entire city.
