The Talavera Fair Complex is located on the right bank of the Tagus River with views towards the old town.
In a very open environment, without its own architectural character that determines it, overturned on the Tagus, the new Fairground and Congress Palace is configured as an urban landmark, as a significant form capable of transforming its place. It must be the benchmark and image of the Talavera Fair. The building must be a present icon in the city.
The Talavera Fairground is designed as a unitary complex made up of three main buildings, one metal, the other wooden and the third glass set upon a common white basement.
Interstitial spaces are generated between the buildings. A large cover closes the glass one, exceeding its limits, flying over open spaces. A volume is projected attached to the metal-clad construction wrapping around the whole complex, folding in height, forming the main entrance, giving unity to the entire fair complex.
THE BRIDGE BUILDING
Single element, treated as an “inhabited bridge”, with a span of eighty meters, houses the offices of the Fair Board. It configures the main entrance to the venue and is shown as a differentiated piece in itself, alternating its night and day perception.
The structure is resolved with two large metal trusses seen from the inside. Outside, the perforated aluminium sheet hides them during the day. At dusk, given the visual permeability of its enclosure, when the light comes out from inside, the structure is exposed, this facade, the main entrance to the fair complex, is radically transformed, creating a spectacular effect.
THE GREAT ROOF DECK
Singular element and protector of a covered street suitable for outdoor exhibitions.
THE SQUARE
Between the metal and wooden buildings, outside the influence of the large roof, there is a central square open to the sky that functions as the centre of the entire complex, as an area for expansion and promenade. In this environment, landscaped green gardens, vertical communication elements, panoramic elevators, etc. come together.
