THE SITE. The building is located on the premises of a High School located in the residential neighbourhood of the Polígono Industrial de Toledo. The annexed buildings belong to a “type” project program of the Ministry of Education, with no architectural interest. Two red brick volumes and sports courts make up the immediate environment for our project.

THE IDEA. The idea of ​​the project is the consequence of research work on the problem of architecture: space, valued by light, walked through time.

The architectural space is articulating the programmatic dependencies around a central element, rehearsing the operations of compression, decompression, a vertical section in double-height and diagonal in triple.

The tour of the interior, valuing the architecture in terms of the temporal dimension, what the camera cannot capture, and the human soul can. The staircase understood not only as an element of vertical communication but as an architectural promenade.

Light, the magic tool of architecture, that values ​​space, that stresses it, that enables emotion in its apprehension. The white light, on the white walls, used as a backlight in the basement, behind the glazed elevator, slipping on the clean facings, fanning the rusty, reddish texture of the corten steel, painting lines of direct light inside the building, continually changing according to the hour of the day.

Minimalist simplicity in terms of strict use of materials and economy of means. Accuracy and purity of the encounters. No element is intersected. Tangencies, subtle contacts between elements, clean and tense planes.

The surprise of the baroque, of the architecture that is walked through, that thrills at every turn of the corner with the unexpected gift of an unimagined perspective, with an unsuspected shade of light, with a backlight or with a flash of direct light.

As for the exterior, precision, and sharpness in the geometry of the boxes that slide over each other, enhanced with the use of materials.

THE MATERIALS. 45-15-5 cm white painted mortar brick. Corten steel in sheet metal plates and slats. Phenolic plate in particular pieces. White concrete retaining walls. Valdepeñas limestone paving at the main entrance. Yellow Albero and white stone crushed in the urbanization of the environment.

The entrance of people is located on the middle floor, taking advantage of the unevenness of the land, facing south, capturing light that goes to the basement.

The entrance of vehicles, for the assembly of stages, is carried out on the lower level, through a mobile gate, which, depending on its position, transforms the rear elevation of the building.

Chromatically, the dominant white of the building is placed in dialectical relation with the main volume, of the central space, in corten steel. The wood – phenolic touches highlight the singular points, such as the chimney, the gates, hollows, etc. The Albero replaced the initially planned gardening due to future maintenance problems.
