UNIVERSITY PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE

Albacete | 2004 – 2005

The University of Castilla-La Mancha promoted the construction of a Medicine Faculty and an underground car parking in an avenue at the opposite side to the University Hospital in Albacete. This fact made the necessary building of a footbridge to connect them.

A footbridge is projected to cross Almansa Avenue and connect the current School of Medicine of the University Campus with the General Hospital of Albacete, in collaboration with D. Diego Peris Sánchez, Director Architect of the Office of Infrastructure Management of the University of Castilla -La Mancha. The footbridge is covered and closed, 99.90 m in length and a useful width of 5.00 m, with a central span of 21.60 m, two side spans of 35.10 m and extreme cantilevers of 2.70 and 5, 40 m respectively. The interior of the pedestrian bridge is heated.

The footbridge is made up of two parallel steel trusses with a 3.00 m edge, separated by 5.20 m between axes. The trusses are made up of two longitudinal lines, upper and lower, and vertical beams separated every 2.70 m. The piers are directly grounded with reinforced concrete foundations.
