Architect by the ETSAM Higher Technical School of Architecture of the Polytechnic University of Madrid. Graduated in 1988 with the final maximum qualification of HONOR DISTINCTION selected for the EXTRAORDINARY UNIVERSITARY AWARD. Student of Professor Alberto Campo Baeza and Ignacio Vicens with whom he worked in his VICENS-RAMOS studio until 1990 developing architectural projects. He completed doctoral courses in 1992 at the Polytechnic University of Madrid.

In 1990 he participated together with Ramón Sánchez de León in the International Ideas Competition for the construction of the IV Bridge over the Guadiana river in Badajoz, resulting the project presented with the motto “Alcantara”, winner of the first prize, which led to the commission of the development of the Execution Project completed in 1992. This same year the work began with the Laying of the First Stone by His Majesty the King of Spain Don Juan Carlos I ending in 1994.

In 1996 he jointly founded ESTUDIO AIA from where he carried out his professional activity oriented to the drafting and management of architectural projects. He has participated in all the competitions of the studio winning a significant number of them, which has allowed its subsequent construction. On this website a significant number of his built work is shown, managing from the large scale to smaller performances. He has worked from new construction works to interventions in historical buildings.

The works of the Fair and Congress Palace of Talavera de la Reina, the buildings for the Headquarter of the Departments of Social Welfare and Health of the regional government of Castilla La Mancha or the El Doncel university residence in Ciudad Real are noteworthy.

He has also been invited as a member of the Jury in different architectural competitions.

He has been invited by the Higher Technical School of Civil Engineers of the University of Castilla La Mancha to give lectures on Currents of thought and theory of restoration and intervention in historical architecture since the s. XIX to the present day and on the History of building structures. He has carried out research work on the Historical Heritage of the Cigarrales de Toledo.

He has recently been the winner, together with his partners in the studio, of the competition to draft the project for the new Alcántara bridge parallel to the Roman bridge; an emblematic work built almost 2000 years ago by Cayo Julio Lácer.

Civil Engineer, Channels and Ports by the Higher Technical School of Civil Engineers of the Polytechnic University of Madrid. He was graduated in 1989 with the maximum final qualification of HONOR DISTINCTION with an extraordinary award for the academic record. He completed doctoral courses in 1992 in the speciality of Foundations and Structures.

He began his professional activity in the bridges department of ACCIONA INGENIERÍA, continued in the construction company SACYR to end up associating with his brother Francisco Sánchez de León and opening his own office.

In 1996 he jointly founded ESTUDIO AIA, where he has since developed his professional activity in the field of civil engineering. He has designed and directed numerous bridges, including the cable-stayed bridges of Badajoz, Guadalajara, Buendía, etc. and recently the project for the new bridge in Alcántara (Cáceres).

He has designed and directed the construction of the Talavera de la Reina cable-stayed bridge, extremely complex work in the field of bridge engineering, where the most advanced technologies have been used in the design and construction of bridges. Among other records, this bridge currently holds the following: The highest pier bridge in Spain. Europe’s tallest concrete inclined pylon and brightest cable-stayed bridge in Spain supported by a single pylon.

Associate professor of the Civil Engineer School of Ciudad Real since 2009, where he teaches the subject of “Project and Construction of Bridges”.

Through Decree 51/2011 of May 10 published in the DOCM of May 31, 2011, he is awarded the Plaque of Recognition of Regional Merit by the regional government of Castilla-La Mancha, which recognizes his Professional career and work carried out on the Talavera de la Reina Cable-stayed Bridge.

Since 2009 he is a permanent member of the bridge committee of the Spanish Road Association and a member of the Spanish scientific association for structural concrete.

Award in 2014 to the “Outstanding Engineer”, as well as to the designer and director of the works of the best public work in Castilla-La Mancha awarded by the Demarcation of the College of Civil Engineers.

Creemos que la mejor arquitectura_ingeniería es el resultado de una síntesis del conjunto de elementos que intervienen en el fenómeno constructivo: la estructura que la sostiene desafiando la ley de la gravedad, las instalaciones que hacen la habitable, el espacio, la luz que lo modela, la expresividad de la forma, su relación con el entorno, sus propiedades bioclimáticas que la hacen sostenible y finalmente su capacidad para la transmisión de emociones y hacer más felices las vidas de las personas que la disfrutan.

Nuestros grandes puentes atirantados por su escala y potencia formal se han convertido en hitos referenciales de las ciudades en las que se ubican, el Puente Real de Badajoz, el Puente Arriaka de Guadalajara o el Puente de Talavera de la Reina.
